*EMINENT CITIZENS GIVE CALL FOR REMEMBERING MAHATMA GANDHI'S MARTYRDOM BY FORMING ALL INDIA HUMAN CHAIN ON 30TH JANUARY*
*Delhi, 24th January 2020:* A Group of Eminent Citizens including Rajmohan Gandhi, Mahadev Vidrohi, Medha Patkar, G.G. Parikh, H. S. Doreswamy,
Harsh Mander, Sundar Burra, Cedric Prakash, Prashant Bhushan, Martin Macwan, Dr. Sunilam, S. Y. Quraishi, Wajahat Habibullah, Devanoor Mahadeva, Apoorva Baruah Patricia Mukhim, Anand Kumar, Syeda Hameed, Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and G. N. Devy *announced a Public Call for several activities including forming Human Chains on 30th January - the day of Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom*.
The activities on 30th January would include:
*Collective Activity:* Forming as long a Human Chain (*Hum-Bharat Maala*) as possible at any suitable venue, preferable with some association with Gandhiji. The Human Chains will start forming from the afternoon and end at 5.17 pm (the exact time of Gandhi ji’s martyrdom) by singing the National Anthem
*Personal Activity:* Day-long fast
*Family Activity:* Lighting a lamp/candle outside the door of the house
The programs would collectively be called *Bharat Jodo* and the value that should be upheld is *”Fraternity"* (from the Preamble of the Constitution of India). In collective activities (1) everyone would be invited (2) special attempt would be made to include women and children (3) no flags would be displayed other than National flag (4) no speeches or slogans would be made and (5) no negative or aggressive banners/placards would be displayed.
The activities on 30th January shall bring to culmination the series of programs organised by We The People Of India - Hum Bharat Ke Log during January 2020 which include Savitribai Phule Diwas (3rd January - Equality), Bharat Bandh (8th January - Equality), Pravasi Diwas (9th January), Vivekanand Diwas (12th January - Unity & Integrity), Sankranti (15th January - Inter Community Events), Rohit Vemula Day (17th January - Justice), Netaji Birthday (23rd January - Liberty) and Republic Day (25th-26th January).
The call was endorsed by the Working Group Members of the All-India Coordination of over 100 organisations for National Action Against Citizenship Amendment through CAA-NRC-NPR under the banner *We The People Of India - Hum Bharat Ke Log*.
